I woke up at the condo, frantically finished blogging (as seems to be the routine lately on my last day in town) and helped pack up the place.
The four of us drove to have breakfast with Greg and his wife Geri, who drove up from Bishop to see us all. It was great to spend time with them with my whole family.
My parents drove me up to the main lodge where I was going to catch the shuttle back to Red’s Meadow. We took a “happy snappy” (aka a family picture, as my mom likes to call them), and gave each other goodbye hugs.
My friends, who had taken the trolleys back to the main lodge, showed up shortly after. We were split up into two buses but we made it back to Red’s Meadow around noon. We hung out for a bit before finally hiking off.
I and the rest of the group took a side trail to Devil’s Postpile which was amazing! It was so cool to see. I hiked on past a beautiful river under some increasingly menacing looking clouds. The mosquitos were terrible and I was hiking quickly.
The thunder and a light drizzle started and I made a quick pit stop to repack my backpack so that my bag liner was around everything in case it started to dump on us. Thankfully, it never rained harder than a few drops here and there but I’m glad I was prepared.
I made it to Agnew Meadows trailhead parking lot and the crew was hanging around. I layered up with my rain jacket, wind pants and bug head net to avoid the mosquitos and relaxed with them. We were deciding what to do and as soon as someone suggested camping at Agnew Meadows Campground nearby, I was in. We were originally planning to hike farther so it took some mild convincing, but everyone eventually agreed.
We walked to the campground and set up in a spot that was big enough for all our tents. Wrapped in our bug gear, we had dinner at the picnic table and a fire (my first on trail!) in the fire ring before retiring to bed.
