Day 31, May 18: Mile 440 to 444 and into Thousand Oaks

  • Start: Mile 440.3

  • End: Mile 444.3

  • Miles: 4.0

  • Ascent: 634 | Descent: 1088

Normally on this trail I have been packing out just a little too much water. I’d always rather have too much than too little, but today I made the opposite mistake. I drank water in the middle of the night and woke up to only having maybe 1/4 of a liter left. Thankfully, we only had 4 short miles to hike out before Amazon’s mom would pick us up at the trailhead. Still, nothing makes you as aware of your thirst as being out of water.

We made it to Indian Canyon TH earlier than expected and waited for Amazon’s mom to pick us up. She did and we dropped G off in Acton on the way because he wasn’t interested in joining for girl time in Thousand Oaks, where Amazon is from and her family’s house is.

We headed towards the valley from Acton and stopped for an incredible breakfast at a Jewish deli-type restaurant in Chatsworth called Old Country Deli. I got an eggs Benedict with lox and the best ever side salad with homemade thousand island dressing and rye croutons. They also brought out homemade pickles and bagel crisps. It was all so, so good. And Amazon’s mom, Katie, treated me to breakfast. I was so grateful!

We Made it back to Amazon’s family’s house and we did the usual chores- showered, laundry, inventory food before our resupply. Amazon let me shower first because she was excited to be reunited with her ukulele. She is incredible at playing it! It was so soothing to hear while I was washing up.

After settling in, Amazon and I ventured out again and I stopped by Lululemon to get some new shorts as my other ones were getting too stretched out, and some new leggings so I could consolidate a few different pant options I had into one. I found everything I was looking for- success!

We then went to Vons and did our resupply shopping, and then to TJs for a few extra random things. I had been craving a Pasadena Chicken Salad from there but they didn’t carry it, sad day. But I got a Chinese chicken salad, a refrigerated bean and cheese burrito, and some flowers for Amazon’s family.

After getting our errands done, we returned back home and relaxed for a bit. I was craving sushi so Amazon kindly drove me to a restaurant nearby and I ordered too much, but it was a lovely solo dinner. I wrote some thank you cards and caught up on blogging and other things. After dinner, Amazon picked me up and we all went to bed.
