Day 66, June 22: Mile 902 to 907 and into Mammoth

  • Start: Mile 901.5

  • End: Red’s Meadow - Mile 906.7

  • Miles: 5.2

  • Ascent: 105 | Descent: 1411

I woke up to a beautiful sunrise and hiked out a relaxed 5 downhill miles under a cloudy, somewhat threatening sky. I took in the beautiful views of the mountains surrounding Mammoth and listened to my audiobook.

I made it to Red’s Meadow and slowly, the whole group arrived. Everyone was very excited for town, myself included. We took the bus from Red’s into town, where we took another shuttle to another shuttle to the town center

We walked a short distance to the hotel where my friends were staying to drop off our packs, and then we walked to breakfast at the Good Life Cafe, where I’ve eaten many times before when visiting Mammoth. I had a crab cake benedict that hit the spot.

After eating, we walked to the gear shop nearby and wandered around for a minute. Then, my family showed up! It was so great to see my parents and my sister.

We drove around town, got some groceries at Vons, and went back to the gear shop where I bought a new rain jacket. The one I started the trail with did not perform very well in the snowstorm on Muir Pass, so I was hoping to get something a little mire heavy duty.

After that, we went to our condo to check in and relaxed for a bit. I took a much needed shower and did laundry. Later, we went to dinner for my mom’s birthday and had fun celebrating her!
